CARLISLE hosts an eight-race meet on Friday and there’s a couple of cracking bets on the card.

The first of those appears in the British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Handicap (3.40) in the form of Sir Michael Stoute’s impressive  three-year-old Partitia.

There’s a couple of reasons for thinking Partitia is a well-handicapped animal off a mark of 85.

She was a visually impressive winner of two of her first three starts last August at Newbury and Chester respectively, before travelling superbly into the Group 3 Firth of Clyde Stakes at Ayr, weakening out of it in the final furlong.

Both her starts this season have come over an inadequate five furlongs (stepped back up to six today) and she had a troubled passage when beaten into a staying-on fourth at Chester’s May Festival in a hot race won by Copper Knight.

Partitia has been dropped a further 2lb for that run, allowing her to now take her chance in a much-weaker Class 4 affair and she could prove a cut above the rest.

Just 30 minutes later, Injam can follow up his recent York win with victory in the Racing UK Day Pass Handicap over a mile and six furlongs (4.10).

Jedd O’Keeffe’s charge relished the soft ground on the Knavesmire as he fended off challengers on either side to prevail in a decent 13-runner handicap under Graham Lee, who takes the ride again today.

At the time of writing the going at Carlisle is good to soft and Injam is actually able to drop in class off his revised mark of 85.

Kensington Star is the likely market leader but all his form is on good to firm ground, and Injam just smacks of a stayer on the improve for O’Keefe and is worth keeping onside.

Haydock stages a six-race meeting and – as previously flagged up in this column – it pays to side with Tom Dascombe’s handicappers at the track when ridden by stable jockey Richard Kingscote.

There’s two qualifiers here, the first being La Celebs Ville (8.00), a four-year-old filly who looks to back up her victory over a mile at Haydock on April 29.

La Celebs Ville won on good to firm that day but appeared to relish softer conditions underfoot in two narrow defeats last year, and a 3lb rise may not stop her just yet.

Golden Glimmer can provide a quickfire double for the Dascombe/Kingscote team in a Class 4 Fillies’ Handicap over seven furlongs.

The talented four-year-old won at Chester’s May Festival in 2016 but hasn’t been seen on a racecourse since July.

Dascombe informed me on a visit to the yard in April that Golden Glimmer had been over to Ireland to be covered in the Spring and, if she is indeed now in foal, she could show a good deal of improvement to defy a mark of 82.

The big race at Chester on Saturday is the Class 3 Liverpool Gin Handicap (3.10) and Mark Johnston’s Khamaary could enhance her unbeaten record having impressively routed an 11-runner field at Redcar last time out.  She’s up 16lb for that demolition job but could prove a good bit better than a handicapper.
