A popular Chester pub will close its doors and be taken over by a local brewery.

Kash Taprooms, which brewed much of its own beer in the pub on Brook Street, Chester, is to close to make way for the award-winning Deva Craft Beer, based in Sandycroft.

The team behind the tap house and Blueball Brewery are still carrying on their business but will just brew their beers after a well-deserved break.

Deva Craft Beer, which is taking over the tap room, has won the best local brewery accolade in the Chester Beer Awards for the past two years.

This year it was also named as the best new brewery of Cheshire on RateBeer.

Katja Knox, from Chester Beer Blog, said: “It’s kind of bittersweet. I’ve been a local at Kash ever since it opened, and I met my husband Tom there.

“The team there are almost like family so I’ll be sad to see them go, but at the same time we’re all really happy for Deva and excited to see what they make out of the place.

“Kash has come a long way but it’s now time to pass the mantle to someone who will continue their good work.

“If you ask us, Kash has chosen its heir very well.”

Nick Gilbody from Deva Craft Beer said: “It’s really exciting for us. We’re thrilled to take over such an established and much loved place in Chester, and we aim to continue where Kash left off and bring even more exciting beers and events to our customers.

“We know we have big shoes to fill but we will make sure that those who have called Kash their local all these years can expect the same level of amazing beers and the same welcoming atmosphere they are accustomed to – but with our own twist on it.”

Deva Craft Beer is in the process of moving its brewery closer to the tap room to be able to facilitate brewery tours and to keep the bar well stocked at all times.

On the opening day, the brewery will also launch its Pandemonium V2 beer and host live music from Chester’s Fortune Sellers band.

It’s last orders in Kash this Saturday.

The Deva Tap will open its doors on Thursday, March 2, at 4pm.
