CHESTER pocketed a hard earn point in Hampshire against their in form hosts.

Chester made two changes from the side that were beaten 2-1 at home by Forest Green Rovers.

Goalkeeper Liam Roberts replaced Jon Worsnop and defender Theo Vassell started in place of Luke George.

The Blues started brightly and dictated the early exchanges without testing home keeper Jake Cole.

Jake Gallagher produced the first shot of the match in the 10th minute, but his 20 yard drive flew over the bar.

Elliott Durrell responded a minute later when he beat his marker and fired a low shot into the sidenetting.

Striker Kane Richards rolled the ball into the net in the 14th minute, but his effort was ruled out for a foul on Will Evans seconds earlier.

Richards then combined well with Durrell on the right edge of the penalty box, but Richards' low cross-shot was cut out by Scott Rendell.

Richards then steered a 20 yard strike wide of the right post after Cole had punched clear.

James Alabi and Ryan Lloyd ensured Chester stayed in command on a greasy playing surface in light raiin, but their efforts flew wide.

Aldershot had very little to offer in response as Matt McClure glanced well wide with a header and Scott Rendell rifled a 25 yard dive over the target.

Chester came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 39th minute, but Lloyd's superbly struck 25 yard shot crashed off the angle of left post and bar.

Durrell had another chance minutes later, but his 25 yard free kick was ballooned over the bar.

And Durrell's low shot from the right edge of the penalty box in the 44th minute following a good build up between Theo Vassell and Shaw fizzed fractionally wide of the left post.

Richards then teed himself up for Chester's final scoring opportunity before the break, but his curling 20 yard effort flew wide of the right post.

The home club started well immediately after the break with Roberts misjudging a bouncing ball which McClure chasedf and pulled back to find Shamir Fenelon who shanked his shot as far as Rendell whose snapshot was saved.

Matt McClure went close with a first time shot after good work from Bernard Mensah as Shots pressed for a breakthrough.

Chester made a double substitution in the 65th minute when Matty Waters and Wade Joyce replaced Theo Vassell and Richards respectively.

And Jordan Chapell was introduced in place of Durrell who had taken a knock minutes earlier.

Chapell carved a chance for himself in the 85th minute, but his low effort from 20 yards was comfortably saved by Cole.

And the Blues failed to find a decisive finish despite five minutes of added time.
