A PACT has been made to ensure disabled Armed Forces veterans and their families have easy access to support services and job opportunities.
The formal Community Covenant was signed between Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC), the Armed Forces and Remploy which provides specialist employment support for veterans.
The document is a “voluntary statement of mutual support between a civilian community and its local Armed Forces”, the council says.
CWaC’s Armed Forces champion Cllr Jill Houlbrook, said: “The men and women of our armed forces and their families give so much for this country.
“The signing of this covenant demonstrates a commitment between CWaC and Remploy Chester to work together, ensuring members of the Armed Forces community past and present face no disadvantage when accessing the workplace, public or commercial services.”
Lt Col Ian Sawers, North West Reserve Forces and Cadets Association’s deputy chief executive, said: “I’m delighted to be witnessing the signing of this Community Covenant which reflects Remploy’s determination to support all members of the Armed Forces, both reserve and regular.
“I’d like to thank Cheshire West and Chester Council for undertaking to fulfil their part of the covenant with such enthusiasm and determination.”
Remploy Chester branch manager Joanne Rodgers added: “The signing of the Community Covenant was a fantastic opportunity.
“It offered us the chance to share Remploy’s intent to support greater numbers of disabled veterans into sustainable employment and offer personal support.”
