CHESTER Performs are asking for the public’s opinions on their plans for the theatre complex which is due to be completed in 2016.
The new centre, which will combine an 800-seat main theatre, a 500-seat festival space, a cinema, and a library, is due to open in 2016 and Chester Performs wants to know what the public think about the plans.
The new centre will be run by Chester Performs and will also house much of their work, including a season of theatre by the Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre Company, music from Ensemble Deva, the MBNA Chester Music Festival, WayWord and the Essar Chester Literature Festival.
Full planning permission for the new building has now been submitted and will go before the planning committee on September 18. Comments to the council about the application have now closed but Chester Performs are still asking for people to submit their comments to their website to help them shape their future designs and plans for the building.
Chester Performs have even offered two tickets to the 2014 Essar Chester Literature Festival to be given away if you submit your comment before Sunday August 31.
The main 800-seat theatre will present high quality touring productions and commissions from September to May and, through a transformation into an intimate 500-seat festival thrust-stage space, a summer festival of theatre, music and literature.
During the summer, the Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre Company will expand its season across the park, main house and studio theatres, creating a nationally-acclaimed, home-produced festival theatre season.
The library will embrace the latest technologies and provide a range of spaces from quiet study rooms to a bustling café and dedicated children’s library, introducing young children to the joy of reading and inspiring generations throughout the year. Cinema will also be returning to the building - there will be a dedicated 100-seat cinema screen in the heart of the café and library, which will also project films into the old Odeon cinema arch itself.
