TRAFFIC came to a standstill during rush hour yesterday when a lorry overturned close to a major roundabout near Hoole Village.

Police closed the southbound M53 exit slip at J12 to clear the carriageway after the lorry turned on its side just before 5pm.

The ambulance service was also at the scene on the A56 Warrington Road close to the Toby Carvery, just beyond the M53 roundabout.

Paramedics treated two men for minor injuries at the scene.

Police said the two men are suffering from 'cuts and bruises'.

The vehicle was removed and the road reopened just before 8pm.
