TWO love-birds walked down the aisle to renew their wedding vows – exactly 50 years after they tied the knot.
Joan and Tony Haycock were moved to tears as they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in front of family and friends, including eight grandchildren, at St Clare's Church, Lache.
The event had been organised as a surprise – and son Andrew said it was amazing to see his parents walk down the aisle to their song, 'Somewhere' by PJ Proby.
He said: “The service was so special as all their children and grandchildren were there to watch them get married again.
“They couldn’t believe it was all happening to them. They were over the moon! They had pictures taken inside and outside of the church, like they did on their actual wedding day 50 years ago.”
After the ceremony, the group had dinner at the The Elms restaurant on Sealand Road, Chester, where the couple celebrate their anniversary every year.
Andrew said: “When we went inside all the family were there and the restaurant was all dressed up with balloons and table decorations and a gorgeous two tier golden wedding anniversary cake in the centre of the tables.
“We had a three course sit down meal with wine, speeches and toasts. Joan and Tony cut the cake as they did on their wedding day with their song playing in the background and they had their first dance together again.
“The whole day was just perfect in every way and the memories will live with them and the family for the rest of their lives.”
