FOUR young rising ballet stars from Chester have been selected to appear in a production of Coppella.
Alicia Ferrieira da Cunham 10, Georgia Hazeldine, 13, Meg Morrison, 10, and Nicole Morrison, 12, were selected at an audition from more than 200 young hopefuls.
They will appear in the production at the Plaza Theatre in Stockport, for three performances from June 13 to 14 with the English Youth Ballet (EYB).
The young dancers in the cast will dance alongside the company’s international principal artists in a professional production.
A spokesman for the event said: “They will gain an insight into what life is like as a professional ballet dancer.
“The young cast are currently engaged with the EYB’s principal dancers in rehearsals at Stockport Grammar School in a 10-day intensive rehearsal process.
“The rehearsals take place in three studios in the school and the dancers follow a complex timetable of rehearsals.
“Each rehearsal day starts with a ballet class to warm-up and then different scenes of the ballet are rehearsed simultaneously in the three studios. The rehearsal day always finishes with the full cast in the biggest studio showing each other what has been learnt that day.”
Australian principal ballerina, Amy Drew, said: “The young dancers we are working with in Stockport have great energy and attack. Working in a professional environment gives the students a unique insight into life in a ballet company.
“They are so lucky – I wish there had been something like EYB when I was training.
“I feel very privileged to be a principal with the EYB as I get to work with some of the UK’s most talented young dancers. I find them incredibly inspiring.”
