A GRADE II listed pub in a village on the outskirts of Chester since the 17th century is set to reopen next month.
The Nag’s Head, at Haughton, near Tarporley, is undergoing a restoration by its owner, Lancashire-based pub group Ribble Valley Inns.
The Nag’s Head is the group’s first site in Cheshire and the building started its life in 1680 as a local smithy and inn.
The team working on the restoration has so far exposed some previously hidden features, including Victorian tiled floors and original 17th century beams. North West chef Nigel Haworth has worked with head chef Michael Carter to create the menu.
Nigel said: “I can’t wait to open The Nag’s Head in Cheshire. It’s a county that’s got it all: excellent produce, stunning scenery, and buildings steeped in fascinating history.”
It will open on June 9.
