THIS year’s Cheshire West and Chester Sports Award Primary School of the Year award has gone to Blacon.

The accolade has been earned by children and staff of J H Godwin Primary School in Melbourne Road.

Staff at the school encourage team games such as handball, netball, dodgeball, basketball, football, tag rugby. Individual sports are also taught.

As part of the school’s development plan the school’s leaders have prioritised enhancing PE by working closely with Blacon High School Sports College.

Pupils take part in a range of athletic events including the Blacon Sports Day at Wrexham Athletics Stadium.

The school also holds a healthy school week and invites outside agencies and the community to talk to children and parents about health, first aid and road safety and holds an annual sports day.

There are also partnerships with Everton FC and Manchester City FC as wall as the well established Blacon Youth FC teams.
