AN officer was hit by a police car during an arrest attempt.

The accident happened near the Waggon and Horses pub on Western Avenue, Blacon.

The female officer was hit by the car when she got out of it as she tried to arrest a male suspect on foot.

She is currently recovering at home and the suspect was later detained by Cheshire Police.

The incident happened on Friday at 8.30pm and was described by Inspector Kevin Chambers, of Chester Outer Policing Team, as a “low level” accident.

He said: “Police were looking for a male in the area who was wanted for a criminal investigation.

“He was near the Waggon and Horses pub in Blacon and there was a low level police car accident.

“A police car collided with a female police officer who was on foot.

“The police officer has bruising and is recovering well.

“Accidents sometimes happen because unfortunately dangers are involved in policing.”

A series of tweets posted on Chester Outer NPU’s Twitter account said: “Due to a number of enquiries over the weekend concerning a collision involving a police vehicle on Western Avenue, Blacon on Friday night...we can confirm that a police officer on foot sustained slight bruising after being in contact with a police vehicle.

“No one else was...involved and the officer is recovering at home.

“We wish to thank the callers who expressed their concern and best wishes for our colleague.”
