AN APPEAL for sponsors to help make Chester Pride 2014 bigger, bolder and brighter than last year’s event has been launched.
Festival organisers are seeking £20,000 to help them stage a much more ambitious event than 2013, one that reflects the city’s unique culture and atmosphere.
Last October more than 3,000 people gathered at Town Hall Square to celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) life and the event was a huge success.
This year, to accommodate similar numbers, plans are being drawn up to relocate to the newly-revamped Grosvenor Park, with more space provided for an entertainment stage, marketplace and a lifestyle ‘expo’.
To draw people from the city centre, a colourful parade of LGBT-friendly community groups, public and voluntary organisations and businesses will work its way through the streets towards the park.
The cost of the event, scheduled for Saturday, October 4, would be about £20,000 – and organisers have made an appeal for sponsors and supporters.
David Redpath-Smith, chief executive of the new community-led Chester Pride Committee, said: “The feedback from last year was hugely positive and it seems there’s a real appetite for the city to continue to have its own Pride, like our neighbours in Liverpool and Manchester.
“Unlike larger, more commercial events however, we want Chester Pride to reflect the city’s unique culture and atmosphere.
“We had really generous support from a range of organisations last year, but to meet this year’s cost we’re really having to ramp up our efforts.
“We’re therefore keen to hear from any business or organisation who wants to be involved.”
Chester Pride say they are looking for a main stage sponsor as well as act sponsors, advertising in the official programme, people to run market stalls at the event and people to take part in the parade.
