THE chairman of Chester FC will take a step back from club duties for about a month to undergo treatment for a health problem.
In a statement on the club’s website, Tony Durkin said he had been struggling with a recurrent health problem first diagnosed in 2005.
He will undergo treatment for the condition on Monday.
The statement from Mr Durkin saw him outline the current situation.
He said: “This treatment will require me to avoid unnecessary contact with people for a period of three to four weeks to avoid risk of infection, so I will need to stay away from the club including matchdays until my condition improves and stabilises.
“I have used the past few weeks to prepare for my absence and am fully confident that the current board of directors, staff, volunteers and the new management team will hold the fort and deal with any club matters until my return.”
Fans have taken to social media sites to wish Tony a speedy recovery.
Chris Matheson wrote on Twitter: “All my very best wishes to Tony Durkin – see you back home soon Chairman!”
Pauline Meakin, chairman of the Chester Exiles, wrote on Chester FC messageboard Devachat: “On behalf of all the Exiles and all Chester FC fans, we wish you well with the treatment and get well soon Tony.”
