POLICE are keen to speak to the man and woman who approached a little girl in Blacon but do not believe the approach was an attempted abduction.

Cheshire Police had launched an investigation into reports the couple approached an eight-year-old girl in Stratford Road at about 6.45pm on Thursday.

Concerned parents used social network website Facebook to spread warnings following the apparent attempted abduction, with residents reporting that police were carrying out door to door enquiries in Stratford Road and Fisher Road.

Police spoke to the girl to establish the full circumstances around the approach and now believe it was an innocent encounter.

Detectives said they had established there was no criminal conduct, no physical contact involving the girl and nothing untoward appears to have taken place.

Detective inspector Gwyn Dodd said:  “We are aware that rumours are circulating on the internet regarding this incident and we would like to reassure people that officers have carried out numerous enquiries throughout the day and no offences are apparent.

“However, as part of those enquiries we would like to speak to the man and woman in question so we can close our investigation and we would urge them to make contact with us by calling 101 and quoting incident number 783 of October 18.”
