POLICE are investigating reports a man and woman attempted to snatch a little girl in Blacon.
Cheshire Police confirmed officers are looking into the apparent attempted abduction of an eight-year-old girl in Stratford Road.
They are urging anyone who has any information to get in touch and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
The Leader understands from the girl’s grandmother that the youngster was playing near her home at about 6.45pm on Thursday evening when she was approached by a man and woman.
The couple, who are thought to have been driving a van, attempted to grab the girl but she managed to escape and run home.
The youngster fell as she was escaping, cutting her knee, and was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital but returned home later that night.
Concerned parents used social network website Facebook to spread warnings following the attempted abduction, with residents reporting that police were carrying out door to door enquiries in Stratford Road and Fisher Road.
Cheshire Police spokeswoman Shelley Smith said: “At 6.50pm on Thursday police received reports of an incident on Stratford Road in Blacon.
“An eight-year-old girl reported being approached by a man and a woman in the street.
“Officers are currently trying to establish whether this was an innocent encounter or something untoward and enquiries are continuing.”
Anyone with any information is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 783 of October 18.
