FLOOD warnings have been put in place as heavy rains batter the region.

The Environment Agency (EA) has warned that more than three inches of rain could fall later today.

There is a flood alert in place in Pontblyddyn where the road to Wrexham has been closed.

Homes have been flooded across Flintshire including Mold, Flint, Deeside and Bagillt.

The North Clwyd Animal Rescue Centre in Trelogan has put out an urgent appeal for volunteers to take care of their dogs over night after their kennels flooded.

The rain is expected to clear later this evening but further persistent rain could return to parts of north and mid Wales overnight.
