REPAIR and maintenance works on the A55 River Dee bridge near Chester are to be carried out next month.
Work on the three-night Highways Agency project is due to start on Monday, October 1 and be completed by Thursday, October 4.
The £36,000 scheme involves resurfacing the northbound bridge deck, replacing the bridge joints, renewing road markings and road studs and tackling cracks across the carriageway surface.
Because of the location, a full closure of the northbound carriageway between 10pm and 5am on the three nights of work will be required between junction 38 at the Posthouse roundabout with the A483 and junction 40 at the Vicar’s Cross roundabout with the A51.
Clearly-signed diversions will be in place from the Posthouse roundabout using the northbound A483 towards Chester, the A5268 inner ring road along St Martin’s Way and St Oswald’s Way to Boughton and then using the A51 Vicars Cross Road for the A41 to junction 39 of the A55 or onwards to junction 40.
Highways Agency project sponsor Jakub Malaj said: “These works will prevent further deterioration of the carriageway and extend the life of the bridge as well as making the carriageway safer by providing greater skid resistance and enhanced road markings.
“We are doing the work at night to minimise inconvenience to road users."
