Police are warning cyclists to be vigilant

POLICE are warning cyclists to be vigilant after a spate of high value bike thefts in Chester city centre.

Both plain clothes and uniform officers have stepped up patrols in recent weeks in response to the thefts and Cheshire Police has issued advice to prevent bike owners becoming victims.

Officers say bikes should be securely locked and only left in places where potential thefts can be seen with bright lighting and CCTV where possible.

Other precautions included taking clear colour photographs of bikes and making a written record of its description, including any unique features and having bike frames security marked or engraved.

PC Rachel Madeley from the Chester inner neighbourhood policing team said: “Cheshire Police will continue to gather information in respect to the recent thefts in order to bring offenders to justice.

“Should you have any information in relation to any stolen bikes, or of criminals involved in bike thefts, please contact Chester Town Hall police station on 0845 458 6384 or alternatively Cheshire Police on 101.”
