A knitting squad from Melksham Oak Community School are hoping to yarn-bomb the town and cover it with colour as a form of contemporary and friendly graffiti.

A knitting and nattering picknit was held at the school last Friday to try and encourage more people to pick up some needles and get involved.

Ulrika Bruton, who works in the school library, said: “It was a huge success. We had staff, our knitting squad and lots of students and male students which I thought was nice.

“We have been knitting everywhere, there’s been knitting in the school, the library and staff room.”

The squad has already yarn-bombed an oak tree in the school car park and has its sights set on doing the tree in front of the town hall for the Christmas light switch-on December 6. They need wool donations and have a trolley at Asda.
