Reviews: Paradise Lost & Luke White

Emma Mackintosh

Paradise Lost
Tragic Idol
Century Media/EMI - out now

READING the blurb that comes with this album I expected it to be completely unlistenable, a wall of static noise (like I'm sorry to say the most recent Napalm Death album).

However I was pleasantly surprised. No, the melodies and riffs are not particularly ear-piercing or challenging, but this traditional rock-metal band more than equal the likes of Iron Maiden's most recent efforts, given their similar vintage.

Luke White
Outside In
Sony/ATV - out July 9

IMAGINE a (more) squeaky-voiced Ed Sheeran… and you're pretty close to imagining what Luke White sounds like.

That aside, the production on this album is exceptional and given that he had such strong input into the whole process reflects very well on this young songwriter.

While very mushy, ballady piano fare, these songs will get stuck in your head. One for the mums and romantics.
