SO WITH a day off booked for Friday I decided to start the weekend early with a trip to the cinema to see Martin Scorsese’s latest offering Silence, more on that later.

But before the film we had to eat so we opted for  Chiquito next to the cinema in Broughton.

As I get older my taste buds seem to be getting more tolerant when it comes to spice so the thought of a Mexican meal was inviting.

I was not disappointed.

We were warmly welcomed upon arrival and taken to our table by a very friendly member of staff.

Choosing what to eat was tough as the menu is extensive but a small bowl of popcorn placed in front of  us helped as we decided what to have.

We decided to share our starters of halloumi skewers with salad with cranberry and chorizo nachos.

I have to say they were excellent and the cranberry and chorizo sauce was a taste sensation. I would never have thought of putting the two together but it is something I will now be stealing.

Mains came next and they were a spicy chicken quesadilla for me and a chicken and pork fajita for my partner.

We were not disappointed.

There was plenty of food and the spice levels were spot on. The meat was succulent and cooked to perfection and the accompanying salads were fresh and vibrant.

I have to say we were suitably surprised by the food on offer at Chiquito.

The service and attentive staff were also excellent. The only thing that spoilt it for me was when it came to paying.

Opting to pay by card it was declined twice, not thankfully due to lack of funds, but according to our waitress the intermitent wi-fi signal they get in the restaurant.

Luckily we had the cash to pay but I think it might be worth pointing out to customers to save them the embarrassment.

As for the film, well, not really to my taste and it did seem to go on for far too long but why not pop along and see for yourself.

As for Chiquito, we will definitely be going again.
