Four fire engines and the aerial platform were called to the farm on Guy Lane, near Waverton, at 9.30am.

A silo, believed to contain 15 tonnes of rape seed, was on fire in the yard. The cause of the fire was an electrical fault.

The crews spent most of the morning tackling the blaze.

At 3.50pm, firefighters were still at the scene.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “Firefighters are currently emptying 12 tonnes of rape seed from a large silo and damping down at the scene.

“Crews are expected to remain in attendance for several hours and a relief crew has been requested.

“The cause of the fire is an electrical fault.”
