The M53 is currently closed northbound between junctions 7 and 6 at Ellesmere Port after a lorry jacknifed at around 11.15am.
Due to the need to recover heavy vehicles this closure may be in place for some time and drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible.

Up to three vehicles - two LGVs and a car - may have been involved but it is believed there are no serious injuries.

A spokesman for the Highways Agency said: "One of the lorries is carrying scrap metal - some of which has spilled onto the carriageway.

"I am also told there is carriageway damage which may need to be repaired.

"Highways Agency Traffic Officers from the Knutsford Outstation are on the scene at the moment helping to manage traffic."

"Staff at the North West Regional Control Centre have set signs around the local motorway network advising of the closure," the spokesman added.
