Fun day marks opening of Golden Jubilee Park

A VILLAGE fun day attracted about 1,500 people as the rain held off for the festivities.
The new Golden Jubilee Park was opened at Saughall Fun Day on Monday amid a host of celebrations and events.
A glacial boulder, the Millennium Stone, was moved to the park to mark the millennium and a time capsule was buried on the site. Revellers enjoyed a barbecue, bouncy castle and a tug of war competition.
The Sheriff of Chester, Cllr Andrew Storrar, opened the celebrations and planted a beech tree in the park.
His wife, Cllr Jeanne Storrar, said about 1,500 people attended the event.
"It was very successful and the weather was reasonably kind," she said.
"There were all sorts of events going on and there were queue's for the bouncy castle. The time capsule stall was also very popular.
"My husband did the official opening and planted a beech tree which we gave them.
"There were cricket matches and football games and the tug of war was very successful."
The fun day was the first to be held in the village for several years and was part of the May Day celebrations.
