They will take their place on the platform wearing formal scarlet gowns, gold hoods and black bonnets specially made for them by royal robe-makers, Ede and Ravenscroft. The Duke of Westminster, Foundation Chancellor of the university, is due to attend the occasion.
The university's vice-chancellor, Prof Tim Wheeler, said: "We are delighted to recognise and celebrate the talents and achievements of our honorary graduands, Prof Andrew Motion, Sue Birtwistle and the Very Rev Dr John Hall. They each demonstrate a rich abundance of many of the attributes which we cherish most as a university.
"Understandably, all graduands will be looking forward to the graduation ceremonies, as they represent the culmination of hard work, study, and often sacrifice. I would like to assure all those graduating that they have made their mark on Chester's academic, cultural and social landscape."
During the service the university's public orator, Prof Chris Walsh, will outline the esteemed careers which influenced the choice of Andrew Motion, Sue Birtwistle and John Hall as the latest recipients of honorary doctorates.
The first service at 9.30am was followed by another at 11.30am and the third at 3pm.
