A NEW 24-hour rowing record has been set by a Chester club.
Junior members of the Royal Chester Rowing Club, aged 12 to 16, covered a distance of 345,884 kilometres during a 24-hour stint, raising £3,000.
The amateur rowers set themselves the challenge of breaking the existing indoor rowing record to raise awareness of the sport and also raise money for new equipment.
The challenge, which was supported by the Duke of Westminster, took place in The Mall Grosvenor shopping centre, along with collections and raffles. The children organised shifts for participants of rowing, eating and sleeping.
The distance rowed is now the UK benchmark for this age range.
