SIMON DAVIES is aiming to see his squad provide him with a few answers as they step towards the opening day of their League campaign.
The Chester City boss will utilise the majority of his squad for tomorrow's trip to Blue Square North League neighbours, Vauxhall Motors, at Rivacre Park, (3pm kick-off).

Davies has been pleased with the progress of his players in training this we
ek which incorporated a 2-2 draw at Southport on Tuesday night.

He said: "Our match at Vauxhall is just another game against non-league opposition, but I'm sure they'll be wanting to go into the game and win it because it's a scalp for them if they can beat Chester City.

"We're well aware of what to expect from Vauxhall after our game the other night at Southport when there were a few challenges flying around and I'm sure we can expect a few more of those this weekend.

"We're looking forward to tomorrow's game, but we've got to be careful in certain aspects in terms of the challenges, but we're looking for a good performance and if we can get that right again it should be a decent run out for us.

"We've got Carlisle and Swansea coming up when we'll be testing ourselves against higher league opposition, but tomorrow I want to play as many players and let them play 45 minutes apiece.

"We all know the way we want to play, we've got a system, we've got a level of fitness which will improve during the next three weeks, and we're having a look at positions that suit certain players and our system."

Davies is hoping to name French trialist, Damien Mozika, in the squad to face Vauxhall, but that is dependent on paperwork being completed in time.

And he revealed that he didn't think former Vauxhall striker, Paul Taylor, would be ready for tomorrow's clash after sustaining a knee injury.

He added: "Damien may play if his paperwork is complete, but it might be better for him to play against Swansea and Carlisle which would provide a bigger test.

"And Paul will be struggling to be ready for tomorrow because he's still carrying a knock to his knee and he's got a slight hamstring injury.

"To be fair to Paul he came into training for the first two or three days and I think he's found it a bit of a shock coming from non-league to training in the morning and afternoon. But that was to be expected and we knew that would be the case, so we've taken it slowly with him.

"We rate Paul very highly, but we don't know whether he'll be ready for the start of the season. If he is then he'll get his chance."

With the season just weeks away, Davies said he did not know his best team, admitting: "I don't know my strongest starting eleven at the moment which is a good thing because I think I'd panic if I did.

"We're going to carry injuries and suspensions during the course of the season, and lack of form to certain individuals, so if I only knew about 11 players right now then I'd be slightly worried.

"I've got 16 or 17 players who will be playing a part in the next five friendlies that will hopefully make my mind up."

Vauxhall Motors boss, Carl Macauley, is hoping to persuade defender Craig Robinson to sign for Motors, alongside fellow defenders Jordan Holmes, Matt Maddox. Ged Brannan, and Lee Owens, who have already made the commitment.

Also returning to the Motors squad is former Tranmere and Macclesfield striker, Thomas Rooney, who has been joined by Pat McFadden, a new signing previously with Altrincham. McFadden joins a young outfit and looks likely to lead the attack.

Meanwhile, local midfielders Tom Hannigan, Keith Smith and Jonathan Egerton are also on board for the new campaign.

Admission prices for the Chester game tomorrow are £6 for adults, £4 for concessions, with juniors at just £2.
