PAUL LINWOOD today revealed his thoughts on the key to a Chester City revival.
The Blues defender believes City would profit from an experienced player with a proven goalscoring record.

Linwood was part of the City team that suffered a 1-0 loss at promotion-chasing Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend – a defeat that left Chester just two points above the relegation zone with three matches remaining.

He said: "The lads were absolutely devastated after getting beaten at Wycombe on Saturday.

"We've got a young team on paper and everyone worked so hard at Wycombe, so nobody could believe it was the same old story again.

"Scott McGleish has been scoring goals for years and he spun off one of our lads to score again. He showed why he has scored 20-odd goals this season for Wycombe.

"He's the sort of player you've got to keep an eye on for 90 minutes – but we didn't.

"We haven't got the players at our disposal that Wycombe have, but the likes of Macca (Paul McManus) and Robbo (Kevin Roberts) have come in and they've been absolutely brilliant, so there is no blame pointed at them whatsoever.

"I feel we're just missing a player like Scott McGleish, or a player like Jamie Forrester – just an experienced head that can help us out and maybe knock a few goals in.

"We've missed experienced players like Kevin Ellison, Richie Partridge, and Tony Grant at different times of the season, and since Christmas we've suffered loads of injury problems, but we've coped and we've done okay.

"Our problem has been in the final third of the pitch where we just haven't taken our chances."

Linwood looked ahead to City's match this Saturday at Shrewsbury Town which he rated as the Blues' biggest game of the season.

He added: "Our match at Shrewsbury on Saturday is massive in the position we're in – it's probably our biggest game of the season.

"But we'll go there feeling confident after our brilliant performance at Wycombe.

"I'm not superstitious, but I believe we'll play well in whichever stadium we play.

"We played in a big stadium at Wycombe during the weekend and I felt we more than matched a side who are near the top of the league table.

"I think three points on Saturday would be enough to guarantee our safety."

- Chester reserves drew 2-2 in their penultimate game of the season against a Bury side that included former City striker Simon Yeo.

Lloyd Ellams and James Gregory scored for Chester after Bury had taken a 2-0 lead.

Chester reserves will face Rochdale in their final match of the season at the Deva Stadium, tomorrow (2pm kick off).
