SIMON DAVIES is determined to take the positives out of his club's third consecutive goalless draw.
The Chester City boss saw his side claim another point from their home draw against Cheshire rivals Macclesfield Town.
The Blues completed their League Two campaign in third bottom position –five points above the relegation places occupied by Mansfield Town and Wrexham.
Chester had secured their Football League status in a goalless home draw against Stockport County in midweek, and said: "I know we haven't netted in our last three games, but we have kept clean sheets and that has been enough to keep us safe.
"It was a bit of a lethargic display against Macclesfield, but every single one of the players gave everything on Tuesday against Stockport.
"I've got reason to be proud of each and every one of them.
"Maybe the players relaxed a bit too much against Macclesfield, but it was just nice to get Tuesday night out of the way.
"It probably would have been unfair for Macclesfield or ourselves to have won Saturday's match because there was very little in the game and I thought we were evenly matched.
"We were lacklustre, but it was just very pleasing to see us getting another clean sheet.
"It has been a tough three months since I've been in charge. We will all have a break, but I can't wait for next season to start."
Davies introduced youngsters Glenn Rule and Andy Mitchell against Macclesfield and said he had been pleased with their performances in the second half, adding: "Andy is a really good player, he has come on, and he's really positive in his play.
"If we can get an end product out of him then we've got half a player there.
"Glenn has been doing well in our youth and reserve sides, but I thought he didn't really do himself justice when he came on and I told him so. But he's a half decent player and could have a big future at this club."
Davies revealed why defender Paul Linwood, who won four Player of the Year awards before kick-off, was substituted at the break by Kevin Roberts.
He said: "I know Paul was wondering whether to play because he had been struggling with a bit of a knock which he picked up in training on Friday, but all credit to him for deciding to play. His decision underlined his character and showed why he has provided us with all those good performances throughout the season.
"Linny leads by example. People have said we shouldn't make him captain because he maybe doesn't talk as much as others, but everyone can see the way he performs on the pitch and that's the right way to go.
"Those fans that have been watching Linny home and away all season have obviously chosen that he has been our most consistent player."
